Utterly charming chromolithograph depicting Hanuman carrying the mountain (with life-restoring herb) which saved Lakshman's life. Look at his reliable and amiable facial expression- this is definitely a deity you would want helping out in a life-threatening situation. Of particular interest are his feet - the foot closest to the viewer shows the big toe furthest away, as it should be, while the foot farthest away seems to show a little toe where the big one would be.
A chromolithograph is the printing technology which existed up until the early part of the twentieth century for producing color prints. Before there was color separation, each individual plate had to be hand engraved with the desired colors for reproduction.
The condition of this is eminently frameable, but definitely showing its age. There are couple of tears, the longest being that shown in the last photo, as well as some folds. The fourth photo shows the back of the piece, where the folds are most visible. It is being stored and will be sent in an envelope composed of tissue paper (acid-free) and a strong backing board to prevent any further irregularities.
the size is 9 1/2" w x 14" l
