The instructions are mostly in "graph" form, the beginning of the patterns are given in written format. Each issue includes a page where you will find information on how to follow the diagrams that accompany the instructions.
On the same page two charts are included: one showing the International hook sizes with their American equivalents, and the other listing the number of yards in various balls of European crochet thread. This will make it easy for you to figure out how much thread you need for the project of your choice.
The next page has the section entitled Stitches and Techniques that gives you all the basic stitches with their abbreviations - plus the symbol for each stitch as it appears in the diagrams. Step-by-step sketches are also provided.
Later issues of Magic Crochet used a rating scale to indicate complexity of patterns from easy to complex, this magazine does not have that rating system in place. Trust me, this is not a pattern magazine for a beginner. There are illustrations on how to do specific stitches but not really instructions on how to crochet, you are expected to know the craft.
The magazine is now no longer is being published. Too bad, it had some really great designs in every issue.
Thanks for looking and let me know if you have any questions.
