Fabulous Antique Empire Porcelain Co, LTD, Stroke-on-Trent wash basin, large pitcher, and original 3-pc. soap dish! Made in England ("ENGLAND" is embossed on the underside of the pitcher), this beautiful set was created around the late 1920's and is in amazing condition given its age.
The pattern is a moss rose or continental rose transferware design with black ink marks on the bottom of the pitcher and basin indicating the pattern reference. The basin is 16" in diameter and approximately 4.5" deep. The pitcher is 12" high and approximately 8" wide, including handle. The pitcher opening is 6.5".
Note that the pitcher has very slight crazing which you have to examine closely to see. There is also a small purplish "marking pen" mark on the inside of the lip. The gold rims are in very good condition with hardly any wear signs. The basin
has several flea bites which penetrate the gold rim but, again, you gotta look hard to find them. That light purple pen left a very pale mark near one of the rose clusters. I would guess that both of those pen marks could be removed but I was reluctant to try anything other than light dish soap on them.
The soap dish, as expected, shows the most wear. The perforated porcelain drain dish has a cracked area around one hole, and the bowl beneath it has a little rust-like stain. The lid also has an infintessimal crack and mild gold wear on rim. None of the "flaws" on any of the 3 piece set are visible upon first glance but I did want to point them out.
The set weighs slightly over 8# unwrapped. I have estimated the shipping and will refund any amount paid for shipping that exceeds the actual number by more than $3.00 (which should cover my packing materials).
