This is a mineral water bottle that is similar in style to gin bottles produced in the late 1800s. The water was bottled from Kronthal Springs north of Frankfort, Germany and began shipping to the United States in 1899.
These rustic stoneware bottles are known for their imperfections, and this bottle includes chips along the base and lots of dings and markings. There are no chips in the neck and the handle is in good condition. The glaze color is a unique blend of red, tan, and brown.
There is a Y-shaped crack in the glaze - likely from the time of firing - that runs through the stamp (see second picture). There is also a small square hole in the top of the handle (see third picture).
This would make a great prop for period photography, reenactments, or a theater set!
