While I've made a few Mad Hatter's in my time, the release of Tim Burton's 'Alice in Wonderland' a few years ago introduced a version of the character so colourful and eccentric and just oozing tactility, I couldn't help but have a go at him (twice now).
Many of the quirks of Johnny Depp's Hatter are represented in this marionette with my own details mixed in. The result is a craaaazy hybrid of the authentic source material and a unique tribute to what is one of the most fantastic characters in English Literature. He also makes a truly awesome puppet!

Our marionettes are very easy to use, have excellent movement and can be used by absolutely anybody from the age of 4 up! Dance them to your music, tell stories from inside you, display them as art or just freak out your friends… Life is a little less vibrant without an interactive effigy to share it!

This particular marionette doll's approx 69cm tall or 105cm hung.

The hundreds of marionettes we make are individually created so no two are ever the same. If you'd like a specific colour/theme in the ranges we offer, feel free to ask - we will customise it for you! Otherwise, if there is a design you want that we haven't made yet, contact us with some ideas and support material and we will create one specifically for you.

100% handcrafted puppets, marionettes and interactive effigies by Byron Bay-based artists, Sol and Sara. A crazy, colourful and fantastically-fey exhibition of creatures and characters celebrating the vibrant melting-pot of world culture. Legends and Stories, from the Dawn of Time and into the Near-Future, abound in this unique display of individual artworks. And remember: Puppetry is INTERACTIVE artwork - PLEASE TOUCH!!

We individually hand sculpt the basic character and counterweights (head, face, hands and feet) from raku clays fired to stoneware temperature; everything else is from found objects and up-cycled materials. As a result, we keep our prices low enough to offset the time and labour involved, charging little to nothing for the 'art' and so selling direct to the public at an accessible wholesale cost.

We've been making marionettes in Australia since 1996. We exhibit hundreds of our particular interactive effigies at various markets around the country but more so the larger, more prestigious festivals and events. For more of an idea about us and what we do (and where we'll be!), make sure to find us on Facebook… "The Squeaking Tribe Workshop" page or become friends with "Squeakingtribe Marionettes" (that's us too!) :)

Thanks for dropping by!

Sol and Sara
