Forties style is evident in this hard-to-find Gladding McBean Franciscan Coronado coral matte large salad serving bowl. Weighing well over 3 pounds, it measures 10-3/8" in diameter and 4" deep. The Franciscan mark used 1940-1947 is clear and bright on the bottom. In very good vintage condition, no cracks, flakes, or crazing are seen. There is one fleabite on the side and one chip on the bottom rim, as pictured in the last photo. The inside shows faint utensil marks from use. This pattern was produced from 1936 until 1954. It reminds us of the draping of luscious flowing chiffon, often seen on the beautiful leading ladies in the period's black and white war-time movies.
