Stoneware owl designed by Mari Simmulson for Uppsala-Ekeby, Sweden, in the 1950s. Measurements: 7" / 18 cm (height). Makers mark to base. In excellent condition!

Mari Simmulson was born 1911 in St. Petersburg. She received her training in Tallinn and Munich. During World War II, she fled in a fishing boat from Tallinn to Sweden. In Sweden she was hired by Wilhelm Kåge and started working at Gustavsberg. In 1949 she moved to Uppsala and began working for Uppsala-Ekeby. She stayed there a quarter of a decade and became one of Uppsala-Ekeby's foremost potters. Most of her work is in expressionist style, and it is represented at Museums all over the world.
