These little cookbooks are pages of history. The Victory Meal Planner is dated 1942 and gives us recipes from the war days. It reminds us to eat healthy every day from the 7 (not 4) basic food groups. Instead of vegetarian recipes, it offers recipes to help stretch the Nation’s meat supply by cooking meatless dishes. Since it’s published by ‘The Bureau of Milk Publicity’, it recommends a glass of milk at every meal.
From 1950, comes the Sunsweet Recipe Book with ways of using prunes and dates, apricots and peaches. I honestly didn’t know there were so many. A number of recipes are given, while also noting that prunes are ‘rich in laxative potential’.
The 1984 ‘Cooking Adventures with Peter Pan Peanut Butter’ book offers recipes for snacks, sandwiches, and desserts. Most recipes require only a few ingredients and would be a great recipe book for kids.
All the booklets are in wonderful condition with no marks or dog-eared pages. These are all small booklets, the largest being the Peter Pan Peanut Butter booklet, measuring about 8 ½” high x about 5 ½” wide.
