Extra monkeys, extra fun! Not only is this vintage 1966 set in great condition, but it is complete with original paper label, instruction sheet, and extra monkeys. A standard barrel contained 4 each of blue, yellow and red monkeys... this set includes 8 blue, 7 yellow and 7 red monkeys!
In 2011, Time magazine ranked Barrel of Monkeys as one of the "All-TIME 100 Greatest Toys" ever invented. Barrel of Monkeys was distributed by Lakeside Toys of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Fun factoid: Lakeside was also the distributor of Gumby and Pokey bendy figures. Intended to be a test of balance and dexterity, this game is deceptively simple. I haven't played this game in decades, but found myself completely "hooked" in no time. What a hoot!
This is a standard sized No. 8312 set (barrel 4.75" H x 3" W and monkeys 1.75" H x 2.5" W). Lakeside later came out with a giant barrel in 1969. The monkeys and barrel are made of hard plastic. All pieces are in great condition. The original paper label is still intact around the barrel. This label is also in very good condition and has good color, with just a few very small tears on the edges (photos show all sides). The instruction sheet is in good shape, just yellowed with age. Truly a barrel of retro fun.
